The Valley of the Flowers Community Garden provides a place for people who live in condos, apartments, or limited space, to be able to grow their own garden. It is being constructed under the direction of John McReynolds, who has consulted with Dan Brents, a Vandenberg Village Feng Shui gardener, on the preliminary garden layout.
The Garden is ideal for anyone living at the Air Force Base or in Vandenberg Village, but it is also open to all Lompoc residents. In the first phase there are 5 spaces currently available. The planters are 4 x 8 feet and cost $20 annually. If you have 2 spaces it is $30 a year. The annual fee covers watering. The church provides the space, guidance, water and prayers. You don't need to be a VOTF UCC member to participate.
Ella Gale and Joan Koch share the space shown at right. Ella is appreciating the first spring growth as well as the new garden arch.

Spaces are 4 x 8 feet, with screen at the base
to protect the plants from ground squirrels.

Ella Gale writes:
"Joan Koch and I have enjoyed our little garden. We each have had large gardens in the past. Today, this is just the right size for a chance to dig in the dirt and recall the joys of fresh herbs (chives, lemon thyme) and vegetables (lettuce, beets). We have even had weeds and a few slugs to balance the experience. It has definitely been more than a virtual reality. Thank you to the UCC."
