United Church of Christ
Valley of the Flowers United Church of Christ has courageously served on the cutting edge of Christianity in the Lompoc Valley for 45 years.

Its close relationship with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was manifested in the life work of the late Smiley Wilkins Sr. of our congregation who was NAACP’s local president for 23 years. Our church provides meeting space for the local branch and Rev. Chuck Arnold received the honor of offering the prayer for the branch at its Centennial Prayer Breakfast in April, 2009.

Valley of the Flowers UCC also shattered precedents in Lompoc when in 1988 it became the first church in the area to call a woman as pastor, Dr. Barbara Hofrichter.

In 2006, Valley of the Flowers UCC participated in a year of scripture study and self-examination before proudly declaring itself “open and affirming” with regard to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender pastoral candidates and members.

The church actively and generously supports the Lompoc Food Pantry, the Marks House, the Bridge House, Community Kitchen, and Meals on Wheels.

All of this plus a blue-chip music ministry as well with Ruth Lee at Lompoc’s only pipe organ serving both the church and the LMA.
